Our Individual Treatment Philosophy

Our philosophy is pupil centered. We believe that school is a place where:
                                     1.) Unexplored abilities and interests are discovered and given opportunity for growth;
2.) Those already known are given encouragement; and,
3.) Every student is offered vision of new and wider fields of knowledge and experience that make all life richer and more satisfying.

Ocean Academy accepts the responsibility of coordinating the available resources of home, school and community in a mutual effort to guide every pupil's growth towards becoming a self-respecting individual who can function effectively

TO YOU, THE STUDENTS of Ocean Academy, the administration, faculty, and staff extend a most sincere and hearty welcome.  The ultimate purpose of education is to help each student become an effective citizen in a democracy.  Our goal is to develop a program that will allow each student to realize his/her mental, emotional, social, and physical potential.  We hope that you will participate in our varied activities within our school which will prepare you to live a better life and successfully take your place in society.

Our School welcomes you through its doors and we hope you will always be conscious of its traditions and requirements.  The school will be whatever you make it.  Remember that your success in the school will be directly proportional to your efforts.  Let us always have the spirit and courage to do things which will make it outstanding.  The image you create can make Ocean Academy a school to be proud of now and for many years to come.

                                         Peter Carfagno, Principal

Ocean Academy is a therapeutic school that offers educational services to students diagnosed with psychiatric disorders.  As part of Ocean Mental Health Services, we work cooperatively with students and their families to provide support and services.

Ocean Academy’s cornerstone is its therapeutic component, which offers the student and their family psychiatric and therapeutic services and support from our clinical team. We develop and implement an individual treatment plan to manage and ameliorate the diagnosed treatment issues.  The goal is to help each student achieve his/her full positive potential, which is facilitated by our “hands on” intensive psychiatric and therapeutic care. Our psychiatrist is on site weekly to meet with students, families and staff to oversee each student’s progress.

Educationally, Ocean Academy works closely with the sending districts to plan and implement the Individual Education Plan.  Our instructional staff is “highly qualified” committed and trained in how disorders such as Pervasive Developmental Disorders, ADHD, and Asperger’s Syndrome impact the student’s learning experience.  They provide for a variety of educational experiences to give every student a chance for success.
